CONNECT LEAD PASTOR MAC MCCURRY James “Mac” McCurry was born in Gastonia, North Carolina, and grew up in Hartwell, Georgia. He knew at the age of 15 that God was calling him into Christian ministry. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Christian Education from Erskine College in Due West, South Carolina in 1992. After college, Mac moved to Kentucky and earned his Master of Divinity Degree from Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville. He served part-time on staff in several churches while attending college and seminary until he became a full-time pastor in 1995 at a church in Frankfort, Kentucky. Mac met his lovely wife, Andrea, in college. They have three children: Rachel, Laura, and Caleb. Andrea cares lovingly for her family and devotes countless hours to many of PVN’s ministries, including music, drama, and women’s ministry. Mac came to Pleasant Valley North in November 2001. In his time in Rome, he has served on a couple of committees within the Floyd County Baptist Association as well as on a couple of councils within the local school system. When Mac is not visiting hospitals or working on a sermon, Mac enjoys playing tennis, reading, and spending time with his family. He played tennis in high school and on his college’s tennis team but then took a break for a few years. He can be coaxed into playing if you will take it easy on him. Tennis, anyone? OUR BELIEFS Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church of Rome, GA, is a Southern Baptist-affiliated church. We hold to the doctrinal beliefs of Southern Baptists as defined in the 2000 Baptist Faith & Message. GOD — We believe that there is one God who exists in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. JESUS — We believe that Jesus is the Son of God, was born of a virgin, was wholly God and wholly man, lived a sinless life, died in our place as a sacrifice for the sins of mankind was buried, arose bodily from the grave, and ascended into Heaven. CHRIST’S RETURN — We believe that Jesus Christ will literally return to earth. HOLY SPIRIT — We believe that God the Holy Spirit is active in convincing unbelievers of their need for salvation and is the Comforter and Guide Who lives in every believer. BIBLE — We believe that the Bible is the Word of God without any error, the sole authority for life and faith. MAN — We believe that man is a special creation of God, made in His image, but that through the sin of the first man, Adam, mankind fell so that all men are sinners and need salvation. SALVATION — We believe that salvation is a gift received through repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. ASSURANCE — We believe that every person who is truly saved is eternally secure in the Lord Jesus Christ. ETERNITY — We believe that those persons who die in their sins without Christ spend eternity in Hell and those persons who die with their sins forgiven through Christ spend eternity in Heaven. BAPTISM — We believe that water baptism is an act of obedience to the command of Christ and is by immersion after salvation. CHURCH — We believe that the church is a local body of baptized believers with the Lord Jesus Christ as the Head. PRAYER — We believe that each believer has direct access to God through the Lord Jesus Christ. Wright in 1849. The first structure was a brush arbor located in the current cemetery near the large magnolia tree. The growth of the congregation and the community through the years brought the need for more space several times in PVN’s history, and church members have been faithful in building or renovating the facilities each time the Lord led them to do so. New buildings were constructed in 1914 and again in 1941, with the second sanctuary being renovated and extended twice by the late 1980s. The education building was built in 1959 and expanded in 1987 to add classrooms, offices, and the fellowship hall. God has continued to bless PVN with new members and new ministries, as well as a vision to prepare for the future. In 2006, we dedicated our current sanctuary, with a seating capacity of 700. A welcome center, additional classrooms, nurseries, choir suite, and baptistry are also housed in the new building. Our previous sanctuary has been renovated for use by our Student Ministries and Children’s Worship. God continues to do great things as we grow into the future. 1914 1941 1981 1987 PRESENT TAKE YOUR NEXT STEP PLAN YOUR VISIT

Reconnect with others and deepen your faith through PVN Groups, offering life-on-life discipleship via Sunday School, small groups, and D-Groups for all ages. SUNDAY SCHOOL. BIBLE STUDY. D-GROUPS. PVN GROUPS Life-on-life discipleship is part of our DNA at PVN. Relationships matter here, and in a world that is so hurried, busy, isolated, and disconnected, we want to help you reconnect to others and God. There are three awesome ways to do that at PVN! GROW TOGETHER During the spring, fall, and winter months, PVN offers small groups for men, women, and mixed groups that range from topical classes on issues that affect families to groups that focus on biblical study. These groups are offered on a rotational cycle on Wednesday and Sunday nights. These small groups meet either at the church or in homes. Each group is a place of Connection, Discipleship, and Care. Plug into a transformational group TODAY! BIBLE STUDY The Sunday School program at PVN is designed to equip children and adults with the knowledge of God's Word. It is the "backbone" of the church and serves as an opportunity for people to engage with others while also forming relationships with smaller groups of individuals and families. Meeting at 9:45 am on Sunday mornings, classes are designed around age, topical instruction, and biblical truth. There is a class available for all age ranges. Come join us to experience the Word of God in a setting that is familiar and nurturing! SUNDAY SCHOOL Our mission is the Great Commission that Jesus gives in Matthew 28:19-20. The goals of a D-Group are to reproduce and multiply. This means we EQUIP disciples who have a solid foundation on the Word and SEND them out to begin their own D-Group (MULTIPLY)! All of our D-Groups follow the same agenda each week to fellowship while studying through the Bible in a 9-month to One-year time frame. These groups are a great way to explore the Bible and grow relationships with believers! We LAUNCH D-Groups in January and August, so get ready to take this important next step in your faith!
