CONNECT LEAD PASTOR MAC MCCURRY James “Mac” McCurry was born in Gastonia, North Carolina, and grew up in Hartwell, Georgia. He knew at the age of 15 that God was calling him into Christian ministry. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Christian Education from Erskine College in Due West, South Carolina in 1992. After college, Mac moved to Kentucky and earned his Master of Divinity Degree from Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville. He served part-time on staff in several churches while attending college and seminary until he became a full-time pastor in 1995 at a church in Frankfort, Kentucky. Mac met his lovely wife, Andrea, in college. They have three children: Rachel, Laura, and Caleb. Andrea cares lovingly for her family and devotes countless hours to many of PVN’s ministries, including music, drama, and women’s ministry. Mac came to Pleasant Valley North in November 2001. In his time in Rome, he has served on a couple of committees within the Floyd County Baptist Association as well as on a couple of councils within the local school system. When Mac is not visiting hospitals or working on a sermon, Mac enjoys playing tennis, reading, and spending time with his family. He played tennis in high school and on his college’s tennis team but then took a break for a few years. He can be coaxed into playing if you will take it easy on him. Tennis, anyone? OUR BELIEFS Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church of Rome, GA, is a Southern Baptist-affiliated church. We hold to the doctrinal beliefs of Southern Baptists as defined in the 2000 Baptist Faith & Message. GOD — We believe that there is one God who exists in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. JESUS — We believe that Jesus is the Son of God, was born of a virgin, was wholly God and wholly man, lived a sinless life, died in our place as a sacrifice for the sins of mankind was buried, arose bodily from the grave, and ascended into Heaven. CHRIST’S RETURN — We believe that Jesus Christ will literally return to earth. HOLY SPIRIT — We believe that God the Holy Spirit is active in convincing unbelievers of their need for salvation and is the Comforter and Guide Who lives in every believer. BIBLE — We believe that the Bible is the Word of God without any error, the sole authority for life and faith. MAN — We believe that man is a special creation of God, made in His image, but that through the sin of the first man, Adam, mankind fell so that all men are sinners and need salvation. SALVATION — We believe that salvation is a gift received through repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. ASSURANCE — We believe that every person who is truly saved is eternally secure in the Lord Jesus Christ. ETERNITY — We believe that those persons who die in their sins without Christ spend eternity in Hell and those persons who die with their sins forgiven through Christ spend eternity in Heaven. BAPTISM — We believe that water baptism is an act of obedience to the command of Christ and is by immersion after salvation. CHURCH — We believe that the church is a local body of baptized believers with the Lord Jesus Christ as the Head. PRAYER — We believe that each believer has direct access to God through the Lord Jesus Christ. Wright in 1849. The first structure was a brush arbor located in the current cemetery near the large magnolia tree. The growth of the congregation and the community through the years brought the need for more space several times in PVN’s history, and church members have been faithful in building or renovating the facilities each time the Lord led them to do so. New buildings were constructed in 1914 and again in 1941, with the second sanctuary being renovated and extended twice by the late 1980s. The education building was built in 1959 and expanded in 1987 to add classrooms, offices, and the fellowship hall. God has continued to bless PVN with new members and new ministries, as well as a vision to prepare for the future. In 2006, we dedicated our current sanctuary, with a seating capacity of 700. A welcome center, additional classrooms, nurseries, choir suite, and baptistry are also housed in the new building. Our previous sanctuary has been renovated for use by our Student Ministries and Children’s Worship. God continues to do great things as we grow into the future. 1914 1941 1981 1987 PRESENT TAKE YOUR NEXT STEP PLAN YOUR VISIT
- PVN Family Ministry | Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church
Join the PVN Family Ministry to strengthen families and foster discipleship across all life stages. Participate in our diverse programs, from Sunday School and small groups to intergenerational mentorship and family fellowship events, designed to grow your faith and community connections. The Family Ministry at PVN is the shared service of all Christians at PVN to strengthen families and equip them to make the disciples of Jesus Christ in the home and throughout the world! We consider everyone at PVN to be a part of the family of God. There are 6 programs in the Family Ministry that focus on reaching singles, couples with no children as well as those with kids, empty nesters, and seniors. Come be a part of our PVN Family! PVN FAMILY MINISTRY Through Sunday School, weekly small groups, and discipleship groups, the Family Ministry oversees the personal discipleship of all ages from children through senior citizens. The goal of personal discipleship is to allow each person at PVN to become a more mature believer in order to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with others. PERSONAL DISCIPLESHIP D-GROUPS SUNDAY SCHOOL BIBLE STUDY This program is intended to equip parents and married couples to extend personal discipleship at home. Whether you are an empty nester, a married couple with or without children, a single, or a divorcee, the goal of this program is to build upon what is taught at PVN through weekly, accountable study. AT-HOME DISCIPLESHIP Marriage enrichment is vital to the life of husbands and wives! Instead of just focusing on periodic marriage events, the Family Ministry is committed to offering weekly Sunday School classes for married couples based on stages of life and a monthly recurring marriage enrichment program called Grace Marriage. On the 2nd Sunday of each month, married couples meet in the Fellowship Hall to enrich their marriages through group discussion, workbook study discussion with their spouse, and facilitator-led discussion on martial topics. The cost is $99 a year; you can join anytime! Click here to register: https://start.gracemarriage.com/church/pleasant-valley-north-baptist-church-rome-ga/ PROMOTING HEALTHY MARRIAGES Since Family Ministry is over the umbrella of children, youth, and adult discipleship, the Pastor of Family Ministries works to place visitors and members in classes, small groups, and volunteer positions that meet the needs of each person. The PVN info desk in the Sanctuary Foyer is the first stop to ask questions and learn more about PVN and meet the Family Ministry team. INTEGRATION OF THE FAMILY INTO PVN This is a new program at PVN where the Family Ministry seeks to bridge the gap between the oldest and youngest members of the church! Statistics prove that churches that focus on mentorship of older persons with younger ones can more successfully keep youth and young adults than those that don’t prioritize this program. This occurs at PVN through periodic small groups that invite all ages to attend, mentorship programs for families and individuals, and connecting families together to celebrate milestone moments! INTERGENERATIONAL DISCIPLESHIP No events at the moment While discipleship is a major focus of the Family Ministry, providing fellowships for families is just as vital! Through Family Fun Nights in the summer, periodically through the school year, and individual events like the Fall Festival in October and Easter Egg Hunt in the spring, PVN offers many opportunities for families to connect and enjoy time together. It’s never too late to hang with our PVN family! FAMILY FELLOWSHIPS
